There are a million ways to clean for this. I do it the old fasion way. A pitcher of warm soapy water poured down the bore when you get home. Let dry for an hour or so, then regular cleaning. I have never once had a problem. I have even taken a shower with a mauser before when i was tired and dirty and had to clean it.
If you live where it is not very humid, you van go a day or two beofre you do this, but I wouldn't.
Left uncleaned, or simply cleaned the regular way, it will rust away.
I have a Mauser bolt that came very close to killing a man who never cleaned after years of corrosive ammo and long term storage.
The bullt went 3 inches into the barrel. The bolt blew apart and back into his head. I use it as a visual to explain what can happen if you don't clean your gun. I know it is an absolute worst case senario, but it makes it point well.
Just clean and you will be fine.
