Man when I saw the title of your post.....uh, nevermind.
 I may be behind the times but I use the regular old GI grease in the little jars. I have never had any problems. That is some serious grease. |

Tetra grease, the GI plastic pots, wheel bearing grease, the high speed stuff mentioned already, they'll all work. The M14 earned its stripes with, as you experienced, nothing but oil and maybe the GI stuff. Not too hard to do better than that.
Personally, I use the Tetra since it's easy to find and being white, easy to see where it's at on the rifle. |

I'm not even close to a desert so I guess the little GI pots will work for me.
All I need now is that pretty CMP stick in the mail

Almost any quality grease will work, don't spend the big bucks. If maintained properly, you will be cleaning off the old, reapplying new after every session.

I bought some XF7. Seems to be a good lubricant.

I use Lubriplate for my Garand, but you can find the old little GI pots at most every gunshow.

Do you recall the USMC rationale for not greasing the bolt roller and guide slot ?
