I'd like to turn my STG58 into a woody. How well do the wood handguards insulate heat compared to the standard steel? Steel heats up way to much, to quick. Which brand fits/looks better? Any pics?

If it matters, (if a DSA rifle it will) Ironwood furniture is US made, DSA's is not.

Steel is a better conductor of energy that wood. Wood has a much higer R value and will keep heat out longer. I have had some personal experience with DSA's wood furniture and in my experience, it is way out of spec and needs a ton of fitting. Ironwood stuff needs very little fitting. I just used an Ironwood set on an L1A1 and it was almost near perfect. Needed minor fitting on the handguards around the gas regulator nut (Non exsistant on a metric rifle). DSA's claims that their furniture fits better than any other wood on the US market is bogus.

And......I live right down the street from DSA, literally so take this as a very truthful assesment.

PS......American Walnut is the most dense, finest stock on earth.
