I've got a Sporterized Springfield 1903 30-06 (non-Pederson) take-down by Barney Worthen that's not been fired since at least '63.

Anyone have any info on B.W. or a lead info about him and his stuff?

I got it from Daddy, and he picked it up some time in the mid 50's.  I'm not looking to part with it, and I don't expect to shoot it (The serial number is 109XXXX, so apparently it's not automatically dangerous to shoot).

I mostly want to get an idea about the range I should look to insure it for, so suggestions about where I should seek info is appreciated.   I'm hesitant to walk into the next gun show with it to just parade it about.

Thanks for any input.

I dont care what ANYONE says, a sporter is never worth what the original is to me.

And a San Francisco gunsmith?

Hell, Cali was barely a state back then

It weighs half what MKI does, and there's a button on the underside that allows you to unscrew the barrel and store the gun in a suitcase.
