What rifle/carbine would you choose and what sidearm would you choose?

I am interested in what you would choose. Personally, I would choose an HK416 backed up with an XD9.

Looking forward to responses!

AR-15 (M16A4-type) or M1A.

1911

Rifle - AK47 or 74 with folding stock.
Sidearm - Glock 19
Knife - Glock field knife

My rule #1 for any combat weapon - it must work 100% of the time, no matter what. All my above choices will work in sun, sand, snow, and mud with very little intervention on my part.

An M1 Garand in hand, An underfold AK on my back, Sig 228 on my side and a large haversack full of enblocks and mags around my neck.

What kind of combat?

ETA:

Am I staying at home or some kind of base or fortification, and repelling mass waves of zombies or martains?

Am I out, walking, carrying everything I need to survive? If so....
What is the terrian like?
Are my enemies in vehicles and such?
Will I need to carry the rifle a lot or will I be in a vehicle a lot?
Am I fighting alongside others, and if so, what do they have?

MG-42/MG-3

No sidearm, just more ammo.

these threads suck. Now we get to hear everyone's Educated opinion on the subject. I assure you if you had a lug a m1a around with dbl basic load and gear , in and our of vehicles, buildings, and Terrain, you would think differently.

I used to lug around an M60, ammo, and M16A1, and ammo.....................

So I think my response is at least a semi-educated opinion on the matter.

I also was assigned a 90mm recoilless rifle, that I lugged around on ocassion.

You do realize soldiers have to go places in war, and need to carry more than weapons and ammo?
Has anyone here ever tried going anywhere with these loadouts?

M16 Carbine - 16 inch bbl, midlength gas system - Basically the Colt/Diemaco C8.
Glock 17 or Browning Hi Power as a sidearm.

18 inch AR in .308 with an Eotech and magnifier.

14 inch barrel pistol grip (no buttstock) 12 guage.

Colt M4A1 and Glock 34.

I've carried an M16A4 in combat. It's overly long, heavy, and basically sucks to pack around. But I just have too much training and too much muscle memory with the AR/M16 platform to pick anything else. I've used one at every job I've ever had since I was 18. I know its capabilities and limitations like the back of my hand. So the M4 it is. Oh...and it has to be a Colt.

I CCW a Glock 19, so the 34 is an obvious choice. Longer sight radius, long enough to mount a light without it sticking out past the end of the slide, and it's a Glock, what more could I ask for.

Steyr AUG A2.

I could mount my own after market optic.

If I needed to change from a 20" designated marksman rifle to a 14" CQB rifle no problem.

Combat proven in every environment.

I would like an AK in 6.5 Grendel caliber and a Glock G-21 45ACP.

M4/M9

Nothing out there works 'better' some work 'the same'...

But one's primary weapon should be large and vehicle-mounted... Say, 105-120mm...

Or 20mm if you're airborne...

Hope you pack around a lot of the 6.5 ammo, because when you run out, you sure as hell aren't going to find any more.

M4, SIG P226 NAVY
Link Posted: 2/21/2007 2:38:35 PM EST
the pistol would be a service model XD45acp,

for the rifle it'd depend on the terrain,

long or short range and how often I'd resupplied,

I'd carry an 18" 1/7 hbar A4 M16, eotech, M4 stock for distances out to 200yrd;

for distances from 200yrds on out, it'd be a M14;

if I were clearing houses I'd have a entry lenght stocked class III siaga 12 with the barrel chopped to 14" a modified choke installed on the end and 10rnd mags full of 00buck and slugs;

if I was in the jungle, I'd have a M4A3 w/eotech, with the above siaga with 8" barrel afixed under the barrel ala m203 style.

M16/1911
Link Posted: 2/21/2007 3:01:53 PM EST
Assuming I can get resupplied, a Socom 16 and a 1911A1.
If I won't be supplied, I'll take an AK.
Link Posted: 2/21/2007 4:48:39 PM EST
i would take an ak or m14 if i was involded in korean war type combat. i don't see the m16 working too well during the winter

Depends on the theater (desert? Jungle? Plains? Mountains? Urban?)
Depends on the enemy (motivated? conscripts? training? home turf?)
Depends on your support (team? logistics? ROE? duration? goals?)

Too open ended for a response.

Whats funny is how obsolete the .308 is in a battle rifle. DM rifle, maybe, but too few rounds , to heavy, to much recoil for practical purposes. I can carry twice as much 5.56 and have a more manuverable platform. Hell even the marines have ditched the .308 for a accurized a4, which will handle work out past 600 or so. anything past that is not DM material, its sniper work.

M16A4 with ACOG and a HK USP in .45. And perhaps a flamethrower.

10/22 & a .38

Urban environment, not caring about neighbours, RA XCR in .223, looks like very little muzzlerise and recoil from whet I see, and chews through every type of ammo you give it, piston operated. For a sidearm, a selectfire Glock with some 30rnd mags.

If we have to worry about collaterals, P90 with a tonn of ss190 ammo.

Desert, AK based weapon in 7.62x39 form. The damn dust gets in everything high-quality over there and is a PITA in a firefight when it jams up on you. For a Sidearm, a nice full-size 1911 hi-cap in 45acp.

for a urban rural american SHTF scenario

ar10 as primary
mk18 with surpressor in the assult pack
sig220 in a drop holster

ammo can be found easily

An Noveske Rifleworks Leonidas as Primary and a Glock 21 as a secondary; plus a Rem 870 Breacher gun on a back "scabbard" and a Dionaldo-Hossom Karambit as a combat knife.

-SCAR H 7.62 CQB short barreled verison
-ACOG 4x scope
-EGLM 40mm underbarrel launcher
-Advanced Armament SCAR-SD suppressor

SA XD45 with a threaded barrel and a Gemtech can

I think I can do a bit of everything with that setup lol

AK47 with a sig 220....also carry a scandium 38

would love to have the SCARH but its not out yet and still not as proven as the AK....with the above I would feel more than fine..

If I was able to get cleaning supplies, a Rock River M-4gery with iron sights.
If I was on my own for a long time I would want an AK, although either weapon would do a good job.

My sidearm would be my Glock 17 and five or six extra magazines and a good suppressor.
Link Posted: 2/22/2007 3:55:45 PM EST
Steyr AUG A2 with 20" barrel and a Trijicon ACOG 3.5x for my primary

HK USP .45 Tactical as my primary pistol or

FN Five Seven USG

The pistol choice depends on what kind of opponet I'm going to be facing, if I am going to be expecting an opponet wearing kevlar then I am going to be taking the Five Seven.
Link Posted: 2/22/2007 4:09:11 PM EST
It depends on the terrain on which I'm fighting. If I was in combat where I live, or pretty much anything but a vastly rural setting, I'd probably choose an M4, and either a SIG (226, 228, or maybe 220), or a HK Mk.23. If it were going to be waged mainly in buildings, or more of a "building" setting, I may choose something like an MP5 Navy. If it's longer distance combat, I may choose something like an M1A, HK91/G3, or something with a larger caliber and range.

Why would you want to carry around a spare barrel in combat? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of, right behind carrying Beta-C mags in combat.
