I took apart my M48 completely to refinish the stock. It looks like the receiver and barrel cannot come apart or come lose. Are they permanently attached? I just dont want to put it back together and have the barrel be lose in the reciver. I probably have nothing to worry about but just want to make sure.

Yes they can come apart, just not easily. The reciever is threaded, and the barrel is screwed into the reciever.Their is almost no way you can cause the barrel to come loose by accident, dont worry

to pull the barrel off of my M48A my smith needed a 3 foot cheater bar to break it free.
dont worry, unless you're the incredible hulk you dont have much of a chance of loosening it.

Check on surplusrifle.com they have a lot of info on disassembling mausers and putting them back together properly. Ask me how I know.
