I heard some people using them for fishing weights but need thinking about making a sand cast and smelting zinc down for an AR buttstock weight. Any other ideas? Do recyclers pay anything for them?

So far I have used them for ballast in my garbage can.

A fishing weight mold sounds like a better use for them.

Why can't Zinc be used for a bullet material?

i don't know about using them as fishing weights.  i was in a backpacking forum recently and it seemed that folks were being scolded for taking head and shoulders shampoo backpacking.  according to the scolders, the zinc in the shampoo (its active ingredient) kills aquatic wild life.

i wonder if the zinc wheel weights will harm that lone raccoon in california that got stupid for eating a wheel weight on the side of the road. do californians know that lead is mined in their state?  i hope the lone condor in california doesn't eat fish. there won't be any after the zinc wheel weights get in the water.  no worries, just something else for them to ban.

It can, but in general existing mold designs are not correctly sized for its use and you need to use dedicated equipment since if you contaminate lead with it, it destroys the leads casting properties. Zinc is extremely hard compared to lead and sizing with conventional lube sizers is not practical. Of course, zinc doesn't need bullet lube like lead does, so the Lee sizers might be the tool for the job.

To the OP, zinc is the preferred metal to make balls for black powder cannon. Go get you a six pounder.

Well, zinc is also in shingles, so moss and algie don't grow on the shingles.  Suprise!
