Pic is not mine and I don't know the how or why it happened, FYI.

Figured to share though.

Fired in the wrong sized chamber. Maybe a 9mm?

Not fully seated in chamber. I had a 22lr with a badly burred chamber mouth that would do this.

I've seen 380 in a 9 and the whole case tries to fireform to 9mm size.

I had this happen in a transferable M11/9. Had a whole mag of brass that looked like this. Rounds were not fully seated in the chamber. Issue went away after I cleaned the chamber really good.

You can actually shoot .380 in a 9mm

Was going to post Mac 11 also, fixed firing pin and a heavy spring and it can fire OOB and brass looks like that.

I made a 40 kind of look like that when I shot it out of my 45

I have seen a .223 look like that, only worse.

It resulted from an OOB firing in an FN that had been converted to .223.

Kind of scarey.

What you can do and what you should do are entirely different things. A new shooter reading your post with little to no ballistic knowledge should take caution before heading to the range with a pocket full of .380 and a 9mm weapon.
