Is there anyway to make these work well?  I am just wondering because I came across one for $400 but I have heard the stories of how bad they are like Jamamatic.  My paperwork at CMP might not be updated intime for March but I really want a M1 Carbine if my wife says pull the trigger over another AR-15.  I am building one for her but I was told that a M1 Carbine is a good weapon for a 110 pound lady according to my M1 Garand Friend.  That is what his wife has for her rifle.

I have one and it took a little finessing to get it right. Mine was way tight after a couple good cleanings so I put a glove on my right hand and rack the op rod a couple hundred times, cleaned and relubed and repeated racking the oprod until it freed up.

Militec 1 and the hairdryier helps.

Alos get rid of the factory 10 rounder and use USGI 15's. Mine now only has FTF issues when I use the factory 10 round mag.

Man ran fine right out of the box.  However, I did have one problem with it: a chipped extractor.  I replaced all the bolt internals with USGI replacement parts and it's ran fine ever since.

$400 isn't a bad price for a good shooter carbine.  Of course, that may change when the CMP announces the release date and prices of their carbines.

I've got one that I've had for several years and it runs just fine. No problems. I do have to make sure to flip it upside down when I clean it so no oil gets in the gas system, but that's true of M1 carbines in general. They don't handle oil in the gas system well, that is. The first time I cleaned it I made that mistake and it wouldn't recock on firing until I took the gas piston out and cleaned the gas port with a pipe cleaner to get the oil out of it. Ever since someone here told me to make sure to keep it upside down while cleaning it, it's run like a champ.

I love the little thing, and it's my wife's favorite.
