I mean, its cool that it works, but lets not pretend airsoft parts have a history of being bomb proof. Skepticism is warranted 9 times out of 10 when people use those parts on real guns.

Most are junk quality but in reality many firearms non-critical parts don't need to be as high strength as they were in the past (steel).  A G36 and UMP analysis will show this.  Its strong where it needs to be and the rest is lean manufactured Following Glock design and engineering model that was proven effective.

The licensed Scorpion EVO and KRISS Vector were factory parts in man cases and many purchased airsoft to get furniture.  Its not always cheap stuff made of chinesium.  Lots of Sig collectors have used 550 clone parts.  It happens.
Frankly - most of the 22 replicas are merely airsoft shells designed around a firearm module that fits within it.

If you have built glocks clones  Look at the parts in them outside of the critical barrel slide steel strength - the parts "material strength" rival vacuum cleaner manufacturing grade parts.  You might be surprised where the critical strength areas are in a firearm.

I have no dog in this fight. MP5s have been mainstream long enough that Magpul and welded rails on other people's guns do not bother me in the slightest. I was pointing out why someone might voice concern on using airsoft parts over the real thing instead of just being a "HK purist". No one wants to ND or shoot something they didn't mean to because the furniture broke at the wrong time *cough* Keltec KSG.

Got mine in yesterday. Seems pretty solid, especially compared to the old MP5 CA AEG had many moons ago. Now if I can ever get my MP5 back from RDTS I can try it on!

I received the stock today.   Fit my Zenith tight with no wobble.   Pretty solid piece.   Came with a H buffer.  I won’t be beating the hell out this stock or trying to hang from an elevator door like in the movie Die Hard but I will put a bunch of rounds through it to see how the internals hold up.   I have some a3 spare parts and most of this stock is very similar to the HK parts sizes.   Overall fit and finish is nice for now.

At 1.200 rounds through F/A SD without any malfunction or noticeable damage.  Heated factory buffer, squeezed with plyers and applied a thin ring of caulking to buffer to hold in place.  MKE owners will notice, the FA sear block will retain factory HK buffer in place w/o modification to buffer.  This stock may be the hidden gem.

Yes #10 is indeed steel, and has recess cuts that are engaged by part #13 with tiny plastic lugs.  It only needs to rotate with little friction so plastic was probably okay for the design life.  #13 parts on mine the lugs are rounded, like someone forced it to hard and rounded it so you can lift and rotate and it doesn't lock.   My stock was sold to me as New Old Stock HK, which I believe it is.  but it has never remained locked I suspect someone forced it hard while it wasn't aligned to the recess on the stock and wore the edge to keep it locked correctly.

When I took it apart I saw the rounded lugs,  I fixed it with metalset A and cured it in the oven at 150 degrees. F .  I filed it square so lugs are engaged properly.  Now it works perfect.

I did compare to the old style Metal latch which is much more thick - You can use that in the plastic stock, but you must cut it to the thinner length (front to back to match the plastic version and file the lugs to mate part 10 That also works if you have a plastic latch later stock.

The airsoft parts are nearly identical - might be a good source for unobtainable spares - the torsion spring of the old A3 is difficult to source as an example.

What does a new HK A3 run, $450ish?

Maybe in the late '90s, early 2000s. That was pricey back then.

This has always puzzled me as well.
Is there something about an HK A3 stock that makes it impossible to reverse-engineer?

We were the premier HK specialist shop at that time in my AO(we had friggin' everything!).

We had a shit ton old school A3s and universals, 100s of A3 forks and A3 parts. 2 POS A3F's were starting to become the rage and
folks were cutting multi-position notches in them before HK themselves caught on.

Prices at the old shop for standard A3s started about $450 for the all steel bois and yes, they just went up from there.
Unbelievable what they go for nowadays. 10 years down the road from now, excellent to new OEM A3s will likely fetch $2K+.

With this recent re-birth/explosion of SP5s and relatively affordable clones, somebody(Cough, cough MKE), needs to jump on this
and fulfill the market demand. Hell even POF with their absolute GARBAGE A3 stocks, will sell out as soon as they hit Fedarm's receiving dept.

MKE still makes old school A3s for MP5s and HK33's. It's a matter of whose importing them and selling them.

Surely by now there must be confirmed reports of multiple fatalities resulting from the pot metal stocks disintegrating under greater-than-22LR use.

Right?

Not from me - its Holding up just fine (merely hundreds of rounds, not thousands however and semi-auto only.)

- I still have both eyes, and alive - no breaks or wear on the stock that is looking like damage forming and I don't think I am rolling the dice in a dangerous gamble.

Not pot metal, there is iron in a fair amount of it for a magnet to stick - so likely a cheap steel alloy and non magnetic (Aluminum alloy) metal stock legs/arms

Nope. I got one, and mortared a stuck casing due to a worn out mag causing setback using the stock.

It's fine. Finish is holding up better than most premium products I own, but I don't use an HK clip for the sling, I just loop it straight on the end cap.

some of it works well. I bought one of the Airsoft  KAC m203 standalone adopter and it has worked well.

A SWAT officer wanted it so I sold it to him at full price.

14 years later..no complaints and they use it every so often.

Just bought one - thank you.
The one from WGCSHOP says it's a pre-order, with no certainty it'll be restocked etc.

Redwolf is in stock.

Thanks, but it looks like I'll probably keep it.  Just bought another AP5.  At $1100 shipped, I couldn't resist.  Now I'll have a dedicated Die Hard version.  Just need to add the poors version of full auto (binary trigger).

HA.

It's here. Great little thing... impressed. I currently have a B&T stock (sold their brace, bought a stock from them) and the KES stock (I love them both).

This is my third stock for this thang. I don't currently feel any difference in sturdiness... but it's just a feel thing. Time will tell.

Anyone knows how to impress more notches in the side braces for additional stock-positions? Never liked only two positions (open/closed)

Congrats.  Mine shows being delivered tomorrow.  No hurry though, I'm still waiting on my Form 1 ( 48 days so far).

I also scored an HK A3F stock from Botach last week.  That stock is built like a tank (and weighs just as much).  I have a second AP5 I'm going to SBR, so I'll have a few options.  One will probably just be a dedicated "Die Hard" version.

When some people think "multi-position" stock, they think of the versatile and user-friendly AR-15 carbine stock. With an H&K A3 stock, it's a completely different ballgame.

The multi-position A3 stocks seem too "fiddly" to me. You need to use both hands on the stock to extend it to anything other than its first locked/extended position. One hand to hold the locking lever in the "release" position, and the other to pull the stock to the desired position. It's the same shenanigans when you collapse the stock, minus the "hunting" for the stock position you want for shooting.

On a two-position A3, you push the lever with a finger, the stock pops out of its locked/collapsed position, and you pull the stock to its locked/extended position. This is very efficient, and can be done very quickly with one hand.

Yes - with one exception: a B&T (brace)/stock.

That is actuated with ONE hand, you just pull and it'll stop at the notch you want it to (by strength of pull).

It's freaking awesome and I have it;

However, I wanted the classic look of an A3 or similar (HK)

I just received my VFC a3 stock today and it fits the ap5 receiver good, but is fairly tight to slide in and out and is leaving some pretty good rub marks inside the receiver guides. There is a little play when locked open but nothing major. Ive never handled a german mp5 a3 stock so I cannot compare to that. This will hold me over until I get lucky enough to catch an MKE  model in stock.

I have an HK91 with an original collapsible stock and that stock glides open and closed smooth as glass and locks up rock solid when extended. it also doesnt leave rub marks in the receiver guides like the VFC has already done to the ap5. That said, the g3 collapsible stock got replaced for a fixed stock. shouldering and cheek weld for the rifle just feels much better with the fixed stock. It looks better in my opinion too.

I've only taken mine out once for 60 rounds or so.  It's pretty solid, but it's also pretty tight to open/close on my AP5.  I'm probably not going to play the Atlantic Lottery and try and get an MKE when they drop.  I'll just use this one.

The biggest issue with these Airsoft parts is that they tend to use Zinc in their aluminum parts. To make things worse they are often cast.

However some parts can be made almost as good as the real deal. I'd definitely buy a 22lr MP5 and throw the Airsoft A3 stock on that.
