So I work at a gun shop and I have been getting a lot of questions lately about 416 upper receivers. I know that they are the new piston driven alternative to standard gas ar-15 uppers but little else. I talked to someone today that says he can get one from a class 3 dealer he knows in PA.

I know I can't get these but would like an education if someone is willing.

Are 416 uppers available to general consumers in the US?
If so anyone know where to get one?
If not then why not [I'm assuming because HK does not want them to be available.]
If not then are they only available to class 3 and if so why- they are only an upper.

Thanks for any replies. Unlike some gun dealers I like to have a basic knowledge of what I'm talking about instead of making stuff up out of the blue.

There's one on gunbroker for sale.

That sale is not for just the upper.  It's the entire gun that is a Post-sample and required LEO only Dept head letter for purchase.

The average joe isn't going to get this weapon on Gunbroker.  Though I have seen several uppers for sale on various boards.  They usually go for $4000-$5000 per upper.

Reading is Fundamental...

If you are not able to get a demo letter, you can instead get the upper, sights, stock, buffer tube, buffer, and spring for the winning price and then use it on a semi lower (you must have it registered as an SBR).

Looks like someone bought the cheapest 416 upper I've heard about thus far...

There is/was one on Hkpro.com, genuine HK and around 5500 if I remember. Gordon Miller in SC has POF 416 uppers in stock.

so are these coming in only through le/mil samples only? I am also assuming that no mere mortals can get these without dropping the down payment on a house.

Correct.

And frankly, other than the 'Look at Me' factor.. I can't understand why anyone would pay that kinda jack for one.

So, tell me then.

What do you feel a "genuine" HK 416 upper is worth?

Yea, tell me, I still have not received your check, so I can always back out of the deal!

?????

----NO, are Colt M16?  But there are a couple AFTERMARKET manufactures of Piston Uppers----

If not then why not.
----Ask Mother HK.  or just pay $500 a year and become an SOT-----

If not then are they only available to class 3 and if so why- they are only an upper.
----They are currently ONLY available in a POSTIE MG Configuration for Military & LE ----

Actually, you can purchase just an upper from an 07/02 or 01/03 willing to keep the lower, and sell just the upper, but MOST are going for $4500-$5000 because of the hassle of getting an LE Demo Letter.

But they ARE SWEET:

P.S. I'm the one WITH HAIR

How many days left?

2-weeks.

Don't you know, it's always 2-weeks.
And if you ask again, the 2-weeks starts over.

Actually, "Mother HK" said 2-months.

Thanks, I probably would not break anything, but shoot springs across the room, drop roll pins, etc, is a "sure bet".
