Three mags per pistol.
Seven to thirteen for rifles.
Of course, more are needed for practice and general abuse.

I also go three mags for pistols.

Rifle mags...as many as you can get your hands on.

M1 Garand clips especially, you can't have enough.

Anything else is 10-20.

Lessee... So far I've got 5 for the USP and 14 for the AR.  Not enough for me!

My rule is 5 for each pistol and 10 for each rifle.

Any serious weapon you oughtta have at least 6 spares.  In reality, the more the merrier.  That way when you lose one or five you have plenty of extras!

The Govt specifies 7 per rifle. One in and six to go.

About 30 for the main-line rifles.

At least six for each handgun.

At least, that's what I have, although I really need to get some .30 carbine mags and at least a few spare MK III Enfield mags.

Once upon a time, when I still had my pre-ban Colt HBAR, I had 100-110 in a 20mm ammo can.

Now I have *ZERO*. Of course, I don't have my Colt anymore, either...(can you say "sgtstinger is a dumbass"? I knew that you could.)

For an AR, I would have 15 to 25 on hand. More is better, of course. If worse comes to worse, you could use a couple for "trading material".

Oh, I forgot to add that I usually carry 3 or 5 loaded magazines for my pistol (counting the one in the pistol), with another 4 in my vehicle, dending on how what I am doing. I usually carry a couple of full-size spares for my compact Glock back-up gun in the vehicle as well. Even for the real serious stuff, though, I usually don't carry more than four M16 magazines, though. If I can't handle it with 120 rounds (plus the pistol), I probably shouldn't be there without a lot more help, anyway.

My rule of thumb is: 3 min. per pistol and 6 min. per rifle.  However, more is always better and too many is almost enough.
