How does the folding stock FAL work with regards to the bolt recoil? Where does the recoil spring come in? Most importantly, where does the bolt go if there's no room in what would be the stock but is no longer?

Thanks in advance.

On the folding para FAL it uses a different top cover and bolt carrier. There is no rat tail on the bolt and the springs are under the top cover and attached to the top of the bolt carrier. Very cool.

Is there a plus/minus benefit for this versus the regular FAL set-up? IOW, if it's the best thing since sliced bread why wouldn't they use it on the regular rifles?

Or does that system allow a bit more of a beating?

It was probably more costly to produce the folding model and the necessary parts so they just stuck with the original. Im guessing anyway.
