Critical Defense 12-Gauge 00 Buckshot is specially loaded to ensure proper functioning in semi-auto and pump shotguns. This load delivers eight pellets with a muzzle velocity of 1600 fps, and incorporates Hornady Versatite™ wad technology that delivers extremely consistent, tight patterns without modifying the gun.

Any word on how this Versatite wad technology compares to Federal Flite Control (LE or Vital Shok)?  That is, how well does the Hornady stuff pattern?

I wonder if the wad was designed completely in house, or if they collaborated with Downrange Wads, who is about 25 minutes south of Hornady.

It appears to be the same load as Hornady TAP. If it is it has either the same or very similar wad as Federal uses. The TAP load patterns about as well as the Federal load but the Federal loads pattern a little tighter. One problem that has been noticed with Hornady's TAP is they used very soft plastic for the shells which deforms when left loaded in a shotgun magazine tube for a while.
