So I have 10/22's a couple actually but have always loved the lever action guns.  I have no need or purpose for one in 45Colt though I would consider one. My LGS has a fair price on a like new 22 Golden boy and I am trying to decide if they are any good. I could get the frontier model which is new, blued (not brasslite) with the same barrel for about $40 less, but am wondering what others have had experiences with the Henry 22s. I want an octagonal barrel so I am only really looking at these 2.

Thoughts?

I have the H001 blued Henry 22 LR lever action.  This is the cheaper rifle but very accurate, smooth and a lot of fun to  shoot.  I have Friend's who own the Golden Boys and they are very proud owners.   I've never shot Henry's pump rifle but I wouldn't hesitate buying either.

I dunno about the Golden Boy so much, but I'll be picking up my new H001T Frontier model with the octagonal barrel tomorrow afternoon.

Personally, I'm not so fond of the Brasslite receiver cover, or the extra cost associated with it. Bluing is fine with me.

Plus then it matches my blued Single Six better, anyway.

Get the Frontier. IMHO I do not like the drop of the golden boy's stock does not work well with a scope.

Yes but to be fair I suspect the idea of a scope was pretty much out of the question when the designers were working on this gun.

I have a Frontier model and got in on buying a brasslite receiver cover for it when a guy on rimfirecentral that works for Henry did a special run of Frontier receiver covers.  The Golden Boy covers and Frontier covers are not interchangeable.  Still haven't put it together though, it was going to be a winter project but never got around to it.

I really like shooting my Frontier and added a Marbles tang sight to it.  When I finally do get around to fitting the receiver cover I will have to drill and tap it for the tang sight as well.

However, the Marlin 39A rifles are a much better rifle especially if you can find an older one.  Mine is a 1957 model, same year I was born.

My frontier is one of my favorite rifles hands down. The golden boy has a slightly different comb on the stock. The only other difference I am aware of is the brass. I highly recommend the skinner peep sights. I have one in blue steel on my frontier and one in brass on my big boy .357

do like I did go to a gun store try all three models and go with the one that fits and feels best for you. for it was the frontier. I liked the come of the stock better.
