When you say "local Academy" are you refering to a Law Enfocment Academy and if so are you an LEO and considering this for duty?

He probably means the store named Academy; they only have them in the South-East I think.

This shotgun looks like a Benelli Nova clone.

Thanks for clearing that up.  I have never heard of that store.  I was worried this was a new LEO thinking of using this as a duty weapon.

They don't have Academy Sports near you, JD?

I might be mistaken, but I think it's closer to a Remington 870 clone. The action release placement
looks about right, and I don't see anything that looks like a rotating bolt like the Nova.

I've heard good stuff about Escort... but for the price, you can pick up a brand new Mossberg, and for about $20 more
you can get a brand new Remington 870. You get more bells and whistles with the Escort, but I'm not sure I'd trust the
bells OR the whistles...

They call them Gander Mountain, or Dicks Sporting Goods up in JD's part of the country.

The bolt looks Mossberg-esque.

...and in 5 years its going to be much easier to find a replacement firing pin,  trigger group pin, extractor, etc. for the Mossberg or  Remington if you ever need a part...

You can't find Mossbergs and Remington's with all that stuff at that price.   All that stuff has nothing to do with the quality of a weapon.  All that stuff is just mess.  All that stuff is the quality as the rest of the weapon.  And yes it is fine to have it on a fun weapon.  It is fine to have it if this is what a guy wants and he understands that this weapon is not built to SAAMI standards like the Mossberg and Remington is, that he understands this weapon may not be operating in 10 to 20 years like the Mossberg and Remington will.   Nothing wrong with inexpensive clones as long as a guy understands what he is getting.  Nothing wrong at all.   However, I have learned that when you buy cheap you buy often.  Learned that with tools.  My dads Craftsman and Snap on tools are still being used and many were bought over 40 years ago.   I have went through so many tools in that time that I could have bought three times the tools he has.

So why did you even post the question?  Just go buy it.

I have no experience with the Hatsan, as I said... but you can get a nice set of ghost ring sights on a Hawk 982... For about $5, you can put on an elastic buttcuff shell holder. For another $2-$3 you can screw a section of picatinny rail to the stock, or for $15-$20 you can get a light mount that attaches to the mag tube...

As for the heat shield, my mossberg came with one for less than $300, and I took it off almost immediately. My remington came with a "tactical choke" that I also immediately removed. *shrugs* If you want the Hatsan, go ahead and get it. I'd love to hear a range report. It's not my money to spend, nor my life to protect.
