If a hole was drilled just big enough for a cleaning rod and acc. in the rear of the 10/22 reciever the barrel would be able to be serviced from breach to muzzle by simply removing the bolt. The reason I ask is that I think multipal install/removel of the barrel would cause problems with the soft 10/22's reciever. What do you guys think?

A company named M.O.A. corp. used to make a SS receiver with a hole in the back just for that purpose. i don't think they make them anymore though. a lot of custom 10/22 assemblers are drilling holes too, either as standard or optional.

You could also get a pull-thru cleaning kit, like an otis. Then you wouldnt have to bother with a hole, or removing the bbl.

I've heard of people drilling a hole for a rod though, and it worked out fine.

brownells sells a jig for doing this drill hole and yes it has been done to clean from breach to muzzle

yes while i think it would be a good idea if you where still using a rod.. i have upgraded (IMHO) to a bore snake, Rags, and CLP and it cleans as good as a cheap hoppes kit.

there are also smith's that offer the work. like cpc

i use a .177 otis kit for my 10/22 and it works great.

OK, bore snakes are an awsome tool however, do you reraly think they work as good as a rod and jhig,brush etc?

I've drilled a butthole in a couple of my 10/22s. An added bonus is that it makes it possible to bore-sight the gun when you install a new scope.

I don't use brushes in my 10/22 either. My Volquartsen THM barrel actually says not to use a brush. The only thing I use it the Patchworm from 20/20 Products. My groups actually get better with a fouled barrel.

I clean the bore of my 10/22 on odd leap years only.
That's why i bought a stainless barrel.

Looks like someone else read the Volquartsen directions too. No brush or rod.

I just use a simple piece of string with a thin and hollow brass weight on it. I have a loop in the middle so I can insert a patch in the action, pull it one way, and change patches and pull it back. I use string from a spool of survey marker string. It only takes about three patches to clean the bore.

How about a "Custom 1022" complete with a milled aluminum receiver and match trigger? It already has the rear hole for a cleaning rod.
