I was thinking about picking up a few boxes or a case at Knob Creek. just wondered if they were worth the time and trouble for a 870.

I shot some through my 870P and Mossberg 590. It almost functioned 100%. If I was careful and gently cycled the pump, the shell would function without any problems. If I cycled the action like you are supposed to, the shell would flip backwards or misaligned with the chamber about 30% of the time.

I really liked the idea of having 11-12 shells in an 18" gun. The recoil on the shells are also extremely mild, similar to a low dram target shell. It is my understanding that they work better with the Winchester (and perhaps now FN) pump guns. I am tempted to get a Win 1300 to give it a try.

I love these things. They're fun as all hell to shoot, but I could never get them to feed reliably. The shell would flip backwards around 50% of the time when I was shooting them.

They're intended for Winchester 1300s.

From the people who have tried them, the general consensus is, they just aren't reliable enough to trust in ANY pump gun.

Even the Winchester 1300, which is widely believed to work with them just doesn't well enough for anything but as a range toy.

Bottom line, in a double gun they have a place, and can be fun at the range with a pump, but they just can't be trusted with anything like defense.

some more info here:

on making them work in the 870 or the mossberg 500/590

ETA: this should sum up their overall worth as not much more than a novelty item

Had to cycle the action slowly for them to feed right in my 870. They are neat as hell though.

While they are difficult to get to cycle properly, they make shooting my 12" barrelled 870 AOW bearable. In fact, they're light enough, I frequently shoot it one-handed, with my arm extended. They don't function well enough that I'd use them for anything other than playing at the range. For serious "social" work, I'd rather shoot Winchester's Managed Recoil rounds through it.

One thing learned about these shells

The regular shells dont work in Semi automatic guns and for that matter I dont think ANY of them would. Not enough powder
