Does anyone know of somebody that has modified HK91 type mags to lower capacity?
Like cutting the bodies in half or so with a bandsaw, or sectioning them and reattaching.
I would like to know if the same spring could be used, or what was done and what worked.
I had acquired some larger mags and want to make them smaller in cap size because of the
politicians that know what is safe for everybody.

RTG carries 5 round mags from RDTS.  They're out of stock but he gets them regularly or you could just buy directly from rdts.com

is mechanical minded and has messed with these.

If there's factory 5 round magazines, not sure one gains much by chopping up a 20 rounder & making it into a 7 rounder.  Whether the rest of the country will hafta go to 10 rounders or not remains to be seen, in the short term.  Either way one could sell the twenties and take that pile of cash to buy all the five round mags one could ever want!

I think chopping one up would be a recipe for disaster.  You could make a plug that sits under the follower, and would prevent the follower from dropping down past the 10rd point (or wherever you desire) fairly easily I would think.  If you epoxy it in place, it would be permanent.  A couple of thin metal strips glued inside the body of the mag would probably do it.

Another option is to punch in some of the body, to prevent the follower going below a certain point.  Its like the tabs that stop over insertion, but set inwards.

I wouldn't do anything until the NY legislation plays out in court, even then i'd consider blocking mags with 'less than permanent' mods and test the ‘readily restorable’ language.

Just drill 4 small holes, and put in 2 steel rivets each front and rear of the mag halfway down. Out side of mag will have smooth rivet front, inside will have the 1/4 rivet core that will stop the follower.

I've done it a bunch, who cares about a cheap HK mag?  Even at their current panic pricing they're cheap enough to slice and dice. I practiced on the aluminum HK mags before cutting down a good steel cetme mag.

I also cut down some of my 40 round HK33 mags (still kept some back) to make the gun easier to shoot from the bipod.  Here in Ohio there has been a 32 round maximum for several years but most people don't know it's on the books.

Why not modify them A La Colt from back in the day?

Insert a piece of folded sheet metal long enough to block it to as many rounds as you like.  You ought to be able to attach it somehow at the bottom.

Thanks guys for the follow up and replies.  If we get some of the law repealed, I don't think they will get the preban mags repealed. Therefore, modifying a 20 rounder to 7 or 10 isn't going to be an option via an insert or block.  It's that draconian here.  I will  check out the links provided and go from there.  I do like the "drill holes" idea, but again, NYSP don't care and would arrest you and leave it up to the courts for later.

So in NY can you have 50 year old mags ? I went though mine and I have a few of the 63-64 dated mags as well as 66's . I even have 1 -62

Until they met 1/15 or so, you could own anything made before 9/13/94.  Now, no deal.
It was nice when I shot a few competitions in other states.
