I really want a Marlin 1895GS... the stainless guide gun.

Problem is, I don't like the polished finish on it. What is the best way to get a dull finish on stainless? Should I have it bead blasted or can I get someone to give it a "brushed" look somehow?

I could always have it done with matte hard chrome, but there's gotta be some way I can get the look I want without having it refinished.

bead blasting seems to do a good job.

Bead blasting will make the SS almost white in color, but it is an ideal surface for paint, such as Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II, or other such spray-on finishes.

Be a fanatic about de-greasing, and use latex gloves evey moment.

Would I come out better buying a blued guide gun and having it refinished in matte hard chrome?

I want a dull stainless finish... similar to this: (it's matte hard chrome)

I bead blasted my stainless 1911 then dipped it in oil to darken it up a bit.

This is how it turned out.

I didn't like the polished look either. I blasted it with glass beads at 40 psi then dipped it in DuLite oil.

I plan to do a matte stainless/hard chrome guide gun with this to give me the proper eye relief:

It should make for a pretty awesome hunting rig for everything from hogs to deer to bears.
