I saw a nice M1 Garand at a gun auction that was described as a Springfield but had no serial # or Springfield rollmark on the receiver? The barrel was stamped SA 10-47. What gives?

might be a century receiver with a springfield barrel.  if it is step away.  unless you like to have an op rod stuck in your forehead

Does century put the ser # in another spot on the receiver?

Left hand side up by the barrel IIRC. These are poorly cast and are bad mojo.

Buy CMP and get the real deal. I swear I can smell the salt from Iwo Jima on my august 1943 Springfield. Almost every part is Danish but the reciever and op rod but I swear I can smell the sulfur and sea salt from that battle.

Correct.  I saw one a few years ago and was not impressed at all.  The brand markings and serial number was on the left side and the heel of the receiver was blank IIRC.

My 1942 SG Springfield from the CMP on the other hand is phenomenal.  I was fortunate to get a well above average specimen.  If only that thing could talk...
