There was a thread recently where guys were talking about this. I still haven't seen it happen, but I found evidence on the range a few days ago, that would suggest that somebody here recently experienced it. I haven't heard a peep.

I've seen it and several like it, to include a .308 fired in a .30-06.

aahhh... the web on a .45 is smaller than that on a .40.

Just sayin'.

He's not talking about doing it to reload...

He seems to think someone with a .45 pistol fired a .40 round in it...

My favorite forensic study was a lady who fired a .308 in her .270. The only character still visible on the case head was an "8" . The OAL of what was left of the case and the lack of a shoulder along with the damage to the rifle was fairly telling and whe she brought in the rest of the unfired rounds it confirmed the.308 theory.

Shooting little bullets in a big barrel creates some interesting headspace and gas containment issues but is not much of a problem as the pressures stay low. Shooting big bullets in little barrels however is when thngs get interesting.

The guy who shot the .40 S&W in the .45 ACP is probably one of the self appointed experts here who bitches about how innacurate and unreliable his Kimber is.

A coworker was just telling me about this nearly happening to him nhe said that during a class that lots of ammo gets dropped during drills and when he was picking up some of his dropped .45 he managed to pick up someone's .40 and had loaded it into his mag. He was on the line when he chambered it and the round fell out his barrel.

It would have really sucked if he had fed another round in behind it. Be like a mini 20/12 burst.

That's it! Nostradamus wasn't talking about the date he was warning people to only use the correct shotgun shells.

But they both started with the number "4."

Well, I only found one. At least he didn't shoot a magazine full..and not notice.

We had that happen a couple years ago. It (the 40) was in a bulk box of of 45ACP shot out of a XD45 4". They noticed, but the strangest thing was they hit the gong with that round. Did no damage to the XD.

a .308 WILL FIT IN A.270 ?

I saw my buddy make a 40SW out of a 9mm. I glad the gun did not KB I was standing next to him.

Found a couple 40 in the 45 thing in the past, and I have done the 308 in my 30-06 because I heard it could be done..

I tend to pick up a few 9mm that have been run thru a .40 occasionally. Looks like the 9mm got pregnant. Usually the bulge is to one side, not around the circunference that you would think it to be.

I was next to my buddy when he shot a .270 in a .300 Win Mag....little bit of gas blowing past the bolt gave him a burn next to his eye....

Complacency can kill.

I have saw a few open bolt auto's that were REALLY hard on the brass and they looked preganant as well....

I found 3 or 4 .300 Win Mag cases that had been fireformed to .300 Weatherby Mag.....looked good except for a VERY short neck...

I've fireformed a .380 into a 40 S&W
Link Posted: 11/2/2009 5:48:42 PM EST
That is nothing. I fired a 9mm from a .45. Drop the cartridge down the muzzle, then cock the hammer and fire. Bullet is moving enough to hit the target, sideways. No real recoil, won't cycle the action.

Last time I was an RO at my home range, I had a chick fire a .30-30 in .444 Marlin. Luckily nothing really bad happened and she realized what she did and quit shootin' that gun.

I've shot .22 LR out of a .22 MAG revolver. It didn't work too well. BTW, don't listen to everything the sales person tells you at the gun store.

co-worker was complaining about accuracy of the .17 Mach 2...turns out he was shooting it thru a 10/22

I saw this happen at my local range. Guy comes in with no gun or ammo. Rents a .45, buys two boxes of ammo. Weapon jams, he brings it out to staff. .40 call round in the factory .45 ammo box. Luckily for everyone, no one was hurt.

I have also seen a .45 carbine that was loaded with .40 cal. First couple made it. Then a round rolled in the barrel and stuck, next round left out the side!

Always when when loading your mags.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 8:05:25 AM EST
I'll admit to firing my .41 and .44 together and then loading .41 into the .44

I never even take both of them to shoot any more. Lesson learned.

Same stupid result on cases BTW.

Caliber consolidation

I doubt that I could get any of the calibers I shoot to chamber in the wrong guns. I don't think a .45ACP would fit in my .44Mag lever guns, and vice-versa. Maybe I could chamber a .44Mag in my 1911, but I'm not sure the slide would close. And if I can get a .44 or .45 to chamber in a .22LR then I'm doing it wrong.
