I have an older EA cast reciever that functions flawlessly. My problem is the finish is wearing or chipping off. Could I bead blast the existing finish off? Would a product like Duracoat make a suitable finish? I don't mind a little "patina" on a shooter but I'm looking for projects...

IMO, Duracoat is bit thick for an AR receiver.  I'd use a thinner paint like Gun Kote or Moly Resin.

That's not to say it's impossible to use Duracoat (or AH2, or similar epoxy paint).
