So for starters, long time lurker here, been drooling over the picture threads for quite some time now, so I decided to register and contribute a little.

I'm Belgian, currently enlisted in the Belgian military.  I'm looking into getting licenced, but let's just say they don't make it easy on you over here.

I decided to post in the FN section, since most of our firearms are FN's.  So here goes!

(commenting on the Belgian jigsaw camo is ok, just as long as you send me a dollar via Paypal each time.  I'll PM the details)

After my very first field exercise.  Let's see, too much black and not enough in the neck, I think I had to do 50 pushups for that.....

Violating just about every firearm rule in the book, BUT at least the barrel is clean!

A scoop for Ar15.com, the very new Belgian Army minimi optic!

Bunch of FNC's on a pile.

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6720/thumbimg2333yi1.jpg
FNC further takedown.

The new shooting techniques, called NTGS.  Came over from the Swiss.  Supposedly it's training method from Chuck Taylor's ASAA.  I enlisted in 04, and had the pleasure of being taught the old way, and I must say it's a huuuuuge improvement!  Better and clearer safety rules, better sling attachment, better stances, and a little bit more practise.

I don't really know what FN's reputation is on the other side of the pond, but even the antique POS that we get still work rather well.  Lots of threads about the F2000 I see, and the P90.  I do have to say that the civvie versions you people get look quite silly hem!
So that's that then, if anyone has questions for me I'll be happy to answer them.  I might be able to dig some more pics up, I'll put those up too.

by the way.

whats the shortest barrel length these were made in?  Ive heard of a short barrelled vfersion but never seen one.  Also, any ideas on if an 18" FNC could be cut down to the short length and how much the gas port would need to be opened?

FN....the FAL, the FNC, the FiveSeven, PS90, PS2000. their SAW's, their bolt guns, even some of our M16's....the list goes on and on.

Quality firearms through and through....what a great tradition FN has.

Welcome to ARFCOM brother!!

Looking forward to hearing all about your experiences on your side of the pond!

Here's the new Ak5D made by Bofors: Ak5D. Barrel length is 260 mm... I think.

Can't help you on the shorty question I'm afraid, I've only seen a parastock version in the armoury, and that's it.  I'm dreaming of a parastock with a rail on top, with my own Aimpoint (I'm willing to pay for that myself) but there's no way in hell they'll issue me one.

Just back from leave actually, going to the range on Wednesday to quality as a rifleman.  Shouldn't be a problem at all, but it's the very first time with the new NTGS system.  First platoon that tried it, they had 8 guys failing.  Hmm...

I'll try to take pics.  In the meantime, here's another of a map reading ex;

too tall,
if you could just find some way to export spare parts for FNC, you could be rich.
the US market would kill for parts. Your FN company for some reason wont send them our way.

Hey Too-tall, welcome to the forum.

I've got a FA FNC (para version) and it's probably my favorite rifle. Stone reliable and fun to shoot.

Only bummer is the lack of critical spare parts in the US.....I was drooling over the upper, bolt and bolt carrier in your photos. Those are getting scarce as hen's teeth over here. :(

One question maybe you can answer: Why does FN not like to put last round bolt hold-open devices on their rifles?

Not only with the FNC but also the new FS2000.

Any ideas?

Sorry for the lack of replies, been busy with exercise Quick Response here in Belgium.  Loads of German and French troops on base, for the biggest military exercise in Belgian history.  Saw a C-130 deliver 2 jeeps straight into the ground, etc hink
The bolt-open device, alot has been said about it.  I prefer without, it's so satisfying to ram the charging handle backwards with your open hand and hear it slam forward.  Makes for a very nice bruise on the palm of your hand.

Just kidding, ofcourse it would be alot easyer and faster.  Reason why is, that the Belgian army doesn't have a budget for it he
Saw a FN FNC Paratroop version for sale the other day, for 350€ or 450-ish USD.  Didn't have a bolt, but in brand new condition.

Tempting.

(Btw check out what they gave us after a lecture.  Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, them caring about our welbeing!)

Too-Tall...FN makes great shooting irons!  Have visited plant in US couple of times, and the plant in Liege also; great tradition of small arms manufacturing for sure.  FN-USA (FN Manufacturing) makes all the US M249 SAWs and M240s for our military and all the M-16s we have bought since around 1988 or so...and some great handguns! Welcome to the forum, lots of good ideas stuff here. v/r WaltK

I too would love to have a FNC this is one of the finest looking weapon IMO. I already have a very nice DSA FAL and I wonder if DSA could make a FNC? If so I would be force to buy one.
DSA are you reading this? Give us a FNC!

No such luck I'm afraid, there's no FNC airsoft version out, they have Sattelite Handhelds and the tactical vest they wear is not available to the public.

I actually have a few airsoft replica's.  I don't play with them, they're quite ridiculous if you ever fire a real weapon.  It's just that I will never own a M4, due to our laws.  I have one so I can show co-workers who always say that the M4 is a bad weapon, how one feels to hold.  One thing they always say is that it's very ergonomical, alot easyier to handle.

Thanks for the great pics and info, Too Tall.  I'm a HUGE fan of FN & FNH products, and the FN FNC is, IMHO, one of the best assault rifles out there.  I have a 16" bbl paratrooper and it's one of my favorites.  Take care and stay safe!!!

Welcomes to ar15.com. I love FN line of products. I owned a couple and saving money for the FS2000 and hopefully the FN Scar will make it way to cilivian market in U.S.
I went to Belguim a couple years ago and love the beers overthere. You guys know beers for sure.... I stay in Brussel with my niece and took a trip to Ghent, Brugges and Antwerpen( sorry about misspelling). I drove passed Herstal, but didn't get a change to stop at the FN HQ..
Hey, Too-tall eat some mussels for me, I missed the mussels and the waffles...

Firing the beast was fun though.  We only had 10 bandoliers of 50 rounds, they went thru pretty snappy

yep, we call it the M240 (B,E,D, etc)
I like it better with the wood stock you have than our crappy plastic ones.

We have to take the stock off to store it overnight in a special case.  One time we had an alarm at night, had to get out full ops.  Some stupid MAG gunner forgot to put the stock on, made for interesting conversation with the dutyofficer

see, the problem with wood is, it absorbs blood. Dont want to get AIDS from the last smut that was on the weapon before you. Thats the reason why the army no longer uses wood litters lol

Very nice, I do love the FNC. One of the smoothest easiest full-auto I have ever shot. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Warhound,

Where did you get the rail handgaurd and sight mount? How good of a cheek weld do you get with the Para folder?

The front rail came from DSA, and is a B&T. Very nice fit and finnish but not cheep. The scope mount came w/ the gun so I am not sure what it is, or where it came from. The cheek weld is more of a chin weld, but it does work. I did have the eotech out on the handgaurd but the balence was all off. Its a shame to because the cheek weld was almost right on. I am trying to find something to do to make it a little better as is.

I'm going to have to look into that handguard. If your scope mount is an FN one you can consider your self very lucky. I purchased my FNC, new, in 1988 (cheaper then AR15s at the time) and there were almost no accessories available at that time through when their importation ended in 89. Despite their rather heavy, trigger pull FNCs are great rifles.

For all the FN lovers, here's a nice pic;  It has FN FNC, FN Minimi and FN MAG in it.  I'm the MAG gunner.  It was taken in a DEFROUND after a very VERY long defensive bivouack, waiting for the ride home!
