I saw the DIY mod to make a MIAD fit the SCAR, and I'm not a fan of modifying a $2000+ rifle to use a $30 grip. Is there a bolt-on grip available or in the works at Magpul?

Which rail covers will work? XTM? XT? Anything? Do I just go with Flat Dark Earth to match the rifle?

Also, I am not sure which optic I'd like to run - how precise is the 16" SCAR? On-par with M4-profile AR15 carbines, or possibly more precise like a DMR? Would a 3x ACOG be a perfect complement or should I stick with a red dot/EOTech?

I heard some of the Ergo grips are direct bolt ons.  Also, depending on the serial number, some of the later SCARs may have revised dimensions to accommodate AR grips without modification.  These are anecdotal as I have not confirmed these findings for myself.  You do not need to modify the SCAR itself to fit a grip, you can always modify the grip.  My 149XX Black 16S did not fit AR grips, but it took all of 10 minutes to shave down enough material from the grip so that it would work.

On accuracy; the SCAR is exceptional.  You would definitely see accuracy gains with a magnified optic over a red dot, in my opinion.  My current configuration is a 4x ACOG with a T1 clone on an offset mount.  It works well so far.

Do you have any pics of your setup?

I'm not thrilled about the short eye relief with the ACOG. One of the cool aspects of the SCAR is the folding stock, so I was thinking of getting some type of optic that would allow you to quasi-accurately fire with the stock folded or extended without having to get into a proper cheek weld/position.

Still very much a work in progress.  I'm not quite sure I like the offset red dot versus the 12 o'clock Docter on the ACOG itself.

Nice, I haven't seen many of the black SCARs and that looks very evil indeed.

I'm looking at either the TA11F or another Comp ML3. The EOTech is more "open" but I don't like the electronics on those.

You aren't really modifying the $2k rifle, just the lower. Granted there are no replacements available just yet, but its what maybe $100 part?
And really you barely have to take any material off to get a standard AR15 lower to fit, its worth it

So the serialized part (aka the GUN) is the upper receiver?

Yes the upper is the controlled part.

I just saw the exploded diagram / parts list from FN, the lower is $48.75. The odds of you messing it up are incredibly small, but if you did its a $50 replacement.

Thanks guys. I guess I need new equipment training on the SCAR.

Honestly i thought the same thing at first, no way I am taking a dremel to my $2k rifle just for a grip change.
But its nice to be able to put something a little more comfortable on it, instead of being stuck with an A2 grip on a modern well-designed $2k gun. lol

You can run a TA33 series.  Better eye relief.
