would one of y'all tell me what constitutes a Win-13 M1?

i have a winchester m1 with serial # 1300XXX.

the barrel appears to be like new, the rifle functions flawlessly, and shoots very, very well with milsurp ammo.  i know i've got a good rifle, but don't know if i've got a holy grail of collector's items.  in any event, i'm not selling the rifle.

also, another question.... i have a box of 150 gr. sierra soft point bullets, a crate of surplus ammo, a bullet puller, and a press.  would it be possible for me to unseat a 150 gr. fmj, carefully keep all the powder, and reseat a soft point hunting bullet in the case with the same powder to keep the rifle cycling as it should?

thanks for all your input, as always...

Let's see a pic.  I have no clue what you're talking about.  It may be a M1 Garand made in '43?  What's it look like?

Win-13's were marked with the D28291WIN -13 drawing number on the right front receiver leg. Serial #s in the 1.6 million range, 39,000 of them. Even though they were the last Winchester M1s produced, coming in 1945, the serial numbers are in a lower range than previous Win. serial numbers. So your 1.3 mil ain't one of them.

They're sought after by collectors for the thrill and ego stroking of having the rarest and greatest, not cuz they're any better than any other Winchester M1.

I'm sure you could, but why bother?

if you have a press already, and reload, why not shoot the surplus and use that brass to work up an accurate hunting load?

that way you get trigger time with the surplus, and a good accurate (as in relaible) hunting round,,,

just a thought

Any good commercial softpoint that appoximates the shape of M-2 ball (that is conical with a tiny lead tip or tiny hollow point) and in the 150 grain range will allow your Garand to function perfectly. Stay away from heavier and hotter loads, so you don't bend that op-rod.
