Gonna show my age here, I remember the SP1 going for $230 way way back when, and being horrified when it passed the "three bill" level.

Still got my $335 HK91 and it ain't for sale.

Passing up a pristine (possibly new) HK-91 for a princely 325 bucks.

Oh, if only we had known, huh?

If I ever get my hands on a real time machine I'm going to get me an arsenal.

I wonder how much a GE M61 Vulcan (20mm) would have sold for in 1967, anyway....?

When Butterfinger candy bars were only $.10

When you could eat candy all day long & not gain any weight.

I was 20 in 9/1994 and struggling along with my family to recover from my father's death and the financial ruin of the L.A. riots.

No such thing as the good old days for me and even without the setbacks I would have been cutting it close.

Now I'm stuck in no man's land (aka California) and the weather forecast for firearms ownership is looking decidedly worse by the year.

I remember when you could buy a Colt AR15 for $164.95, Garands for $70.00, (thru the mail) M1 Carbines for around $35.00 and carry your gun down the highway right next to the airport on your way to a hunting area.
One time I purchased a gun in town and caught the bus home with the gun, never had a problem.
The good old days.

When you could walk into a car dealer, plunk down $4k or so, a roar off in a REAL car like a Hemi Cuda or a Boss 429 Mustang or (insert you vision of badass here). When you opened the hood all you saw was engine, not hoses and sensors. Gas was $.35/gal for 106 octane.

More recently, when you could buy new surplus UGGI mags for $6.00 each, sometimes less if you got a deal.

A full auto M16 was around $400 + $200 transfer fee (tax).

You didn't need an interpreter to shop at 7-11.

When flying cost more, but the food tasted good and there was room to stretch. The flight attendants were called "Stewardesses" and were usually hotties.

You could buy guns via mail order directly to your house.

Schools educated as opposed to indoctrinated.

New immigrants tried hard to learn English as quickly as possible and be assimilated into society as Americans - not Mexican/Arab/African/Asian Americans (granted, they were treated worse by the general populace than are today's immigrants, but then that says something of their character that they persevered, doesn't it?).

FBI agents were admired and respected by the law abiding. Unlike today where there is the "they're not all bad" qualifier.

Hoodlums stole hubcaps, fought with fists, and drank beer - as opposed to thrill killing, drug dealing, and drive by shootings.

AAAAHHH Those were the days: gas-14 cents/gal, smokes-16 cents a pack, movie- 25 cents, hot dogs- 10 cents, cokes- 5 cents. Then as I got older, my first ar-15; traded a m1 car and a .45

I hear you on the cuda where you could actually
buy a real car and you could actually Work on it
without specialized equipment. i had a pontiac grandam that the waterpump took 6 hours to replace! and you actually got horsepower. now
you get 4 cylinder's and 6's.

I'm with ya on that one.

Too young to remember $300 AR's.

But I do miss the days when I could buy a rifle and take it home that day.

I get delayed EVERYTIME I get run through the check.

I did pass up a PWA carbine with telestock for $450 at a local pawn shop once. And that was a month before the ban. Didn't know a thing about AR's back then. Passed it up because I had never heard of PWA.

One of my fondest memories is of being about 9 or 10 years old----this was the mid to late '50's---and riding my bike over to the Western Auto hardware store----and buying .22's for my rifle----and being able to do so because I had a note from my Mom saying it was okay.

Well, I think that these are the Good Old Days...Or will look like them in about 10 years.

But yes, I do miss the days when you could buy a Carcano (sp) for $15.00, and carry it home uncased.

Now I am going to cry!

I guess I am too young. I had neither the money nor was old enough to buy pre-ban before they were pre-ban, but I am buying up Yugo SKS's, Mausers, & Mosin's and having them delivered to my door.

Thanks god for the Curio FFL, it is the closest thing to a time machine I have.

I bought a P-38 from an ad in AMERICAN RIFLEMAN for $44.95 and P-08's were $48.95.  This in 1963, one or two months before JFK's assassination.

Now remember that a $1.50/hr job was a decent wage for a college student and a union construction worker earned about $2.50-2.70/hr.
