Back when I was younger, it seems like hunting rifles were held to a higher standard.
My newest rifle Ruger 77/44 won't keep five shots on a  8.5x11 sheet of paper @ 50yds.
I've tried several loads (ok, every load I can find!), no better. I'm sending it to Ruger asking them to correct this rifle or keep it. Looks like I'm back to using the 44 mag anaconda this season.
btw, I've tried different scopes, had other people shoot it, cleaned the bbl, let it cool between shots, etc etc etc. Yea, I'm a little dissapointed.

Sure they are not using spare mini-14 BBLs on those? Seriously, sounds as if you got a very poorly made BBL. Hope they do OK for you.

A smooth bore will keep the rounds on the paper that size.

Use a light to moderate copper jacketed load, and use the iron sights.  This will weed out problems in the scope or the base.  Also, check the screws on the receiver.  They should both be tensioned equally (read go back and forth slowly tightening them up).

That's not the norm with the 77 series, that I can tell you. Let Ruger fix it, they have excellent CS.

Do a search on 77/44 and see what the masses have all said about the accuracy of the 77/44 carbines. One that I remember was "the accuracy of the 77/44 left us cold". I think it is the norm of the 44 mag carbines.

If you think it's bad now, hang a suppressor off of it and see what happens.
