Does anyone know what type of 20 round magazine this rifle takes?  DPMS doesn't say on their website.  In the American rifleman article, it just says it used "one of the new steel magazines for the LR-308 platform from DPMS".

Please tell me that they are not making a magazine that only fits that one type of gun.  Why not use a FAL or at least a M14 magazine.  FAL mags are plentiful and reliable, and M14 GI mags are great, but hard to find, but I guess DPMS could manufacture either if they needed to.

I hope they are using some type of standard mag.

I like the rifle, but won't buy one if they are using some proprietary mag.

Anyone know?

SR-25 or DPMS brand SR-25 pattern mags.

Thanks Shivan.

How common are these mags?  Are they similar to the AR10 mags from Armalite?

Is there a good supply of them around?  I just don't see why they wouldn't use a FAL or M14 magazine.

I see DPMS lists them for sixty bucks a peice:

Is that the going rape rate for those?

I'm thinking of a new 308 rifle that's more scopable than my FALs.

Yep, i saw them on DPMS's site for 60 bucks a pop for 20 rounders.  The cost is kinda prohibitive.  If I bought 10 mags, it would be 600 bucks, 1/2 as much as the rifle itself, not including any scope/rings.

I am looking for a good scopeable 308 also.

Try finding the real KAC SR25 steel mags then you can discuss rape at $100-$150 a pop.

You got that right.

My Friend owns a DPMS LR.308 and during the last few months of the AWB he ordered two KAC SR25 mags from Impactguns.com for $150 each.

$50 to 60 doesn't seem to bad. Armalite AR10 mags were $85 for a long time, now they seem to be down to $45.

Guess people have forgot about the darck days of the AWB, $200 Glock 18 mags, $150 Ramline 10/22 mags and $65 HK91 mags etc etc etc.

Now people are used to $1 G3 mags.

For me this is of interest because I'm weighing the pros and cons of the new RRA LAR-10 308 AR type rifle that takes FAL mags versus the DPMS thing that takes the $60 mags.  During the ban I got 60 FAL mags mostly for $5 ea.  I haven't forgotten the ban.  Mag cost was what drove several gun choices for me then.  $60/mag is still a significant negative factor ban or no.

I didn't know that RRA was making a 308.  Looked at their website and it is supposed to be out this summer.  I think that taking the FAL mags would be key for me, and barring any major price difference, I'm would go with the RRA just b/c of the magazine issue.   I could buy me an ACOG to go on it with the extra mag money.
