Sorry folks -- this has probably been discussed, but the "search" function seems to still be out to lunch.

I primarily want info on 168 and 175 grain SMK rounds. Will those bullets stay supersonic out to 1,000 yards from that little 20 inch barrel?

I could not get the 168 grainers with a stiff load of Varget to stay supersonic at 1000 yards out of a 26 inch barrel. The 155 grain Hornady A-max I had no problem with, and they also shoot better at shorter ranges. Ty some with Lapua 308 cases (not much more expensive than Winchester), CCI BR primers and Varget powder.

Thanks folks....Hagar, have you tried the 175's in your rifle? From what I have read, they work great in some LTR/PSS's but not so great in others.

HiCapMag,I am shooting a Rem700 VS that has been cut down to a 20" barrel. The average chronographed velocity for my Sierra 175gr. load so far has been an average of 2426 fps. This load is shooting 1/2 MOA @ 200 meters. My Sierra 168gr. load is at an average velocity of 2329.5 fps. This is also shooting 1/2 MOA @ 200 meters. The same 168gr. load through the original 26" barrel was 2506.4 fps (Cutting 6" off the barrel has cost me 176.9 fps).I am still in the process of adjusting these loads. There is still a lot off room to play with.HTH. Skullboy.

Ahhhh.....Thanks Skullboy.

The holy ballistic calculation web site indicates that 175 load should stay supersonic to 1000 (but just barely).

HiCapMag, you might want to try the Hornady 178gr. AMAX bullets.I have been playing with them in my 26" barrelled PSS with excellent results(when I'm "on", they'll do 1/4" MOA).My PSS seems to like them a little better then the 175 gr. Sierras.I'm going to try them in my "shorty" and see how they work.
