I think that my sight is screwed up, or rather, isn't screwed.  The elevation knob is hollow on the side, and there are threads in there...I think there is supposed to be a lock screw?  I'll post pics in a little while.

Thanks in advance.

The pics are terrible, but I'm about to shoot my computer anyway.

And yes, Ahhyes, that did help.   Your rifle has a screw on the left side, where mine only has space.  I don't know if the pics help to demonstrate that, or not.

So I guess it's a new elevation knob for me.  hinking.gif

Hey Madman,

I cannot see your pics withought a login "password". Sooo.... Nobody can see your pics.

Sounds like you just need a new elevation screw and "locking washer". (I don't know what the heck you call it but it keeps the screw from falling out. Snap ring ? Retaining clip ? Etc. ??)

I don't know if you can normally get them separate. I thought they came as an assembly.

BTW, the correct terminology is "elevator pinion".

On M1As you see every variation of the M1 Garand sight used. You could have a "lock bar" sight missing the lock bar or something else. Does the elevator work on your sight? Does it click as you turn it? If you're not sure which variation of rear sight you have, find someone in your area that knows the M14/ M1 Garand and have him look at it.

On posting pictures if you're logged into your account and post links from there, we can't see them. You have to link from the public area for us to see the pictures.

The elevator works, the sight aperture moves up and down.  And it clicks.  And about the pictures, yeah, I know that you can't see them.  Sorry.  And the windage knob is marked DRM - which was a USGI contractor?
