I bought this from a board member here:

We called it the Special OOps Garand

It was never suppossed to be camo'd, but it happened.  My friend's kid wanted it very badly so I sold it.  I'm now Garandless

The old saying holds true:

Be careful of what you ask for...

Now we all know what a camo Garand looks like and we are better men for it

Mine is cammo'ed.  Place it in a room filled with hand rubbed walnut planks and you would never know it is there.

Don't pay any attention to the folks that claim non wooden stocks on Garands are some sort of herasy. Unless your Garand is historically significant, then do whatever you want to it. BTW, just being an M1Garand is not historically significant. If it was used during WWII and had been unaltered in anyway since then, that would be historically significant.

If putting a synthetic stock on your Garand relieves some of the anxiety, then do it. I know that I enjoy my Garand much more now that I no longer worry about scratching/dinging/gouging a fine wooden stock.

I'd equate it to buying a sweet vintage red ferrari and then repainting it in like "baby shit brown"...yeah its still gonna DRIVE like a ferrari and BE a ferrari but...you get the picture.

Anyone who is saddened ( or sickened ) by that or any Garand paint job is just reflecting the general feel among riflemen that some things are best left alone ( At least not talked about.) Of course you can do what you want. You could start dating your sister too but would you go around posting pics and looking for a "High-Five"

Got crappy wood? Get a beater spare for $20.00 bucks and sand away.

I dunno...

I guess we shouldn't have altered the 1911 either and left the hand pinching hammers and itty-bitty sights alone.

Now that I'm sure camo Garands piss people off so much I guess that will be my next project

Hanz,

I still stand by my original opinion, but I will admit that the pic. you posted is about the best looking camo job on an M1 that I've ever seen.
