The CMP is getting more 1903's and Carbines. I got 3 Garands, if I can get another, what do you think? Carbine or 1903?

I'll start off......get both.....

"29 December, 2006.   The Army has transferred to the CMP a significant quantity of M1 Carbines. We are currently processing these carbines through our Inspection & Repair operations and expect to have some ready for sale by 1 March, 2007, but it may be sooner. More information will be posted on this web page as it becomes available."

Need to mark the date on my calendar

I only buy stuff that I can shoot.  I don't want to spend $500+ on something to sit in a safe forever.  That's why I decided to pass on the 03(A3)'s and save up to get a carbine or two.  Maybe even another Garand (or two.... ).  Those things are flat out ADDICTING!  Garanditis is much worse than Black Rifle Disease....

jj, wanna start planning a trip?

Ralph, they are supposed to be in pretty good shape....except for the barrels.  Dark bores with no rifling...  I was looking forward to one too.

any idea on pricing?  What did the carbines cost before CMP ran out last time?  I know nothing about them besides that I want one to further my collection of old firearms.

I could have bought one (or five. He had five) about  six years ago for $250 a pop or so in Alabama (I'm sometimes an idiot when it comes to passing up gun purchases).

I will have one of these CMP's if they're in good shape.

Dark bores with no rifling??screw that...I want something I can shoot. A couple years ago, I bought a '03 and later that year a'03A3 I picked them off the rack myself at the north store, the bores on both have a MW less than 1. Birght and shiny with sharp rifling, I went through 2/3 the'03's on the rack to find one with this good of a bore. The '03A3's were all this good, there was about 6 left when I bought mine. They did'nt have any TE gages for the '03 then, so I don't know what it is, but  I'll bet it's just as low.. Both these rifles shoot very well, They're well worth the $400 I paid. As much as I'd like a carbine, I'm not giving the CMP a bunch of money for a wall hanger.

I might buy an 03A3 reciever for a future project that would give me ammo commonality with my Garand.  I won't pay $500 sight unseen for one that needs to be rebarreled right away.

I'll be getting a carbine or two when are released. In the meanwhile though, I want an 03A3. I currently own two 03's, but they are kinf of lonely. Which 03A3 should I get? I'm a little concerned about the barrels, but not to the point that it will prevent me from buying one. I think they will eb very worn, but not sewer pipes. I think (and hope) that the CMP is painting a bleaker picture than really exists.
Which 03A3?

I'm going to get a carbine, they haven't been beat up and mistreated as much (i hope).  It'll make a nice home defense/plinker/trunk gun.

I picked up an 03A1 a while back from the CMP with a 3.5 on the breech and a 3 on the muzzle. I want a carbine now.
