Carry without a permit in Maryland is only a misdermeanor.....

Am I reading right? Is this right???

That WAS correct and may still be. This past session there was a bil to change it to Felony - I don't remember if it got passed & signed.

However if you live in the Baltimore to DC corridor they will pound you to the best of their ability if they catch you carrying (expect add-on charges). I can't vouch for the more common-sense oriented counties.

From what I remember from reading the ATF rulebook last night (GF's dad is a C&R and I was bored of the movie she and I were watching), the first time you get convicted its a misdermeanor (with a fine, I think $250, and I believe a possible 3 years in the slammer), the second time your ass is grass! Its not worth it, just drive to VA and open carry.

I have to disagree. I can tell you that it is a felony for the first time you get caught. Now they usually give you PBJ if you don't have a record. But it is a felony for what they call "Carrying a handgun on your person in public" I almost got snagged for this once. ALMOST!
