Hi all,

I bought a S&W 637 today at the local fun store. It was used and I
got it for a decent price. Whoever owned it before me, decided to coat
most of it with something black. The hammer, trigger guard, barrel, and
cylinder were not coated.

It appears to be something along the lines of Duracoat or Gunkote. But,
having never used any of those products I'm not sure. There was some
stainless showing along one of the ridges of the gun and I was able to
take my thumb and push the coating off. So, whatever it is, it wasn't
applied well.
I will post pics in a few, I'm at work right now. Any ideas about how to quickly remove this?

Soak it in Acetone.  If that doesn't do it, you are gonna need a sandblaster.

I was about to ask a question and link one of his other posts about this, but this will work.

I have a 642 that I have been eyeing a finish like this, but with it being aluminum, I dont know the best type of coating to use.  This will also be my first time doing a refinish, so would sanding/scotchbrite on the frame be the best way or is there a better way to clean the frame?  Mine is having the clearcoat flaking away on it, mostly on the right side of the frame, under the cylinder.
