I just got my first boresnake in .223/5.56. Its a "Viper" brand. I tried using foaming cleaner in my stainless barrel, and then the boresnake. I pulled it from the chamber, out of the muzzle, and from halfway on it felt like it was cutting through my hand it was so tight.

Also i didnt have any lube on the boresnake as i've read it numerous times not to mix cleaners as it can cause pitting, which im not going to risk my lothar walthar barrel.

Is this how all bore snakes are? I understand you want a tight fit, but it was very unpleasant.

They are pretty tight the first couple of times through. I don't recall it cutting into my hand very badly but I have pretty calloused hands.

Perhaps the foaming cleaner made it harder to pull through. All I have ever used with a bore snake is Hoppes on the nose and Break-Free on the tail.

Some of mine are really tight as well, though I'm not sure they're quite as tight as you're describing. Getting the brushes through is the hardest part. I've never used the "Viper" brand though, I always used the original Boresnake.

it will loosen up. my 5.56 snake took a good 3 or 4 cleanings to feel right.

This. Great product by the way; I have one in every caliber I shoot.

yes they will cut if you have girl hands... just kidding

the foaming agent is the culprit on why it was tough.  I myself prefer cleaning rods for real cleaning.  bore snake for me is a last swipe tool.
