I'll be taking a new browning Stainless/walnust Xbolt to kill an elk this october.
Mine's .30-06 not .300wm but it's still pretty lite |

Do yourself a favor and get an auto. Browning BAR.
Super lite, bolt action .300WM is pretty spicy on the shoulder. |

I would also say that my choice would be Sako or Tikka. I have a T3 in .300WM that shoots sub-moa all day, its extremely light and has never given me a problem.

decided on a sako A7 - new.
Shopped a gun show Portland Or - zero luck Shopped fisherman's marine - nice Sako lite $1399 Shopped Outdoor Wholesale - nice Sako A7 - $849 under budget and good quality. I know I could have probably found it for less - but it's slim pickins around here.

3 shot vs. 5 shot MOA guarantee.
multiple parts plastic on the tikka vs. stainless on the A7. (safety, bolt release, etc) mag construction - all polymer, vs metal lined polymer If I was on a tighter budget I'd buy the Tikka and be happy. But I mentally committed to something near or slightly above 1k and I'm happy with the Sako and the value of quality stuff. |

A Tikka T3 is an amazing rifle
Sure it's got more plastic than the Sako it's also far less expensive Shoots amazingly well |
