Well, I put another 450rds of Winchester 9mm NATO 124gr stuff through my Bobcat today, so that puts me up to 500rds through it since I bought it, and other than taking it apart and putting it back together, I've done nothing else to the thing.

Now, I haven't bought any other mags for it, so I just have the mag that came with it, but, I have had ZERO problems with it so far - no failures to feed, eject, extract - nothing.

The gun is a BW-5 FSA, with the gold spring deal.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

DId you install teh gold extractor spring yourself, or did it come like that?  Reason I ask is that I just ordered some silver ones in case mine comes with teh copper ones.

Silver?  Copper?

Mine came with the SW-produced gold spring, direct from Bobcat Weapons.

What are these silver and copper ones you speak of?

Silver and copper are the colors of the springs.  Are you sure the BW one is gold, and not copper?  Copper colored springs are for the 9mm ext., silver for 223, and gold for 308.  the 223 ones seem to give a better ext. performance than the copper 9mm ones.

Ah, OK.

No, mine is gold.

Special Weapons supposedly had them made all special-like.

Dumb question - are the springs all the same size/interchangable?  Could a .308 gold spring be put in an MP5?

Not that I'm looking to, just curious.

Yes, for the most part (on 9mm and 223 anyhow) they interchange.  One of the more common upgrades to hk94's is the 223 spring.  Also, when installing, the 223 spring is more forgiving in case you bend it a little too much getting it in.  Since you're not experiencing any troubles with ext., you shouldn't bother upgrading (unless you want to )  If your current one starts acting up, I'd go with the 223 spring.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Not looking to change anything at this time, just trying to learn more about the weapon system.

I thought HK used the same extractor spring for both the 91 and the 93.

What are the specs for these various springs?

Not exactly sure, all I'm aware of is the 9mm, the 223, and that 308 had it's own spring.  Somewhere in all that spring stuff, is the fact that the 9mm spring isn't compatable with the UMP.

Did a little more checking, I guess there's just the copper spring, and the silver spring.  The gold spring is a US made one by Top Notch for the 9mm.
