I don't think they would've been manufactured that way.  Unless it was some kind of special presentation gun, spec'd by someone.  

But I'm no garand guru.

You sure it is not park'd? The older garand parkerized finish does not have the "fuzzy" look the park on an AR15 does.

If you are talking about a HRA Garand some of the Greek returns were refinished by them  in what is a smooth finish that is like a black paint

This.  There are several purple Garands from Greece.
