A workmate had a Havok
and on Christmas night was making a shell blew one hand off, blew fingers off the other had several chest penetrations, blew the windows in on the back of the house (he was in the backyard) Died in transport Appears to have opened some high powered firecrackers (Atom bombs) and mixed black powder for a launch charge Not the Havoks fault at all |

There was a plastic casing found in the yard
but a machined casing was possibly involved He had been doing a lot of research on the web but did not clearly understand powder burn rates If we (esp I) had known he was planning to involve fireworks like that I could have told him why that could never have worked We heard from his wife shortly after it happened because he was scheduled OT the following morning he had her call the plant. |

Probably mixed in some FLASH POWDER. This mixture is dangerous schiesse, It can detonate. This detonation of a contaminated/mixed launching charge can detonate the main flash powder signal/charge. ~Will |

Many types of flash powder can also be detonated by the simple shock of the lift charge going off. That's the thing many people fail to understand. You don't need a spark to get through, if you are using that sensitive of a mixture. Simply firing it will do the trick, and explode your round in your face. Not worth messing with those... Easily lose fingers, hands, or in this case, your life. GROG

Yes indeed GROG - chlorates (oxidizer) mixed with different fuels at different ratios can make some TOUCH sensitive initiating explosives (Armstrong's mixture) to relatively insensitive propellants.
