So I'm checking out Craigslist the other day, and I come across a posting for "2 World War 2 Bayonets" for 150.00 with no pictures attached. I contact the seller who tells me one is American with a flaming bomb stamped 1943 and the other is "German". I agree to meet her at a Mcdonalds between our two towns and this is what she brings me, they of course came home with me.

A 1943 M1 Bayonet in good shape with some light surface rust on the handle that should clean up well.

And a World War 1 German m1898/05 Sawback bayonet with scabbard, I'm really pumped about this one, you don't seem to find many with the sawback intact. WW2 is my focus so i'm still trying to figure out how much it's worth but I think I definitely got my moneys worth.

I'd appreciate any info you guys have on these.

American Fork and Hoe- they had a plant near here during WWII, but it made axes and shovels.

Originally I planned on keeping the M1 bayonet since I have 2 Garands and only had one bayonet and selling the sawback. After holding it in my hand and seeing and feeling the history in it I think its staying. Gives me an excuse to buy a Gewehr 98

You realize just how historic those are- they were claimed for all manner of atrocities in Belgium many were brought stateside to gin up sympathy and many germans were so scared of being caught with them that they ground off the saw. The sawbacks were originally issued to machine gun, artillery and pioneer crews.

Remember the centennial is next year.
