Really not a good garage project unless you have all the right tools and experience with barrelling M1's. The best thing to do is to send it off to Orion, Fulton or one of the other M1 specialists and have them do it.

Aside from the headspace issue, the main trick is getting the front sight base absolutely horizontal.
I'd also advise professional servicing. You can buy the tools and DIY, but doing it right is considerably tougher. |
