I've spent the last hour and a half searching the BATFE website for their requirements on making a short barrel legal by permanently affixing a flash hider to it, bringing it up to 16 1/2" breach face to muzzle. I couldn't find anything, so I'm asking here...

What types of weld are compliant?
Does it need to be pinned and welded? - By "pinned", what exactly does that mean?

You could just weld it, but the least destructive way is to install a blind pin, through the device and touching the threads, then put a tab over it with the welder and smooth it down, to refinish. I dont think you even need to weld it, chnically, thats mostly to help with refinishing it.

They can be welded or silver soldered on. If using the pinned method basically the FH is affixed to the muzzle, a hole is drilled through the FH and portion of the barrel, and a pin inserted, which normally is tack welded into place.
