How is this gun in terms of Quality? Accuracy? Longgevity?  etc...

So the cheek rest has plenty of adjustment -UP- to use those rings....

Love mine. You gotta have high scope rings in order for the cheek rest to clear the bolt.

Here's the case I have for mine. I don't have to break down the rifle to use it.  But with the AR50 inside, she's a heavy bitch.

Some people have modified their cheekrests to clear the bolt. You can machine off about 1/4" so that the bolt will clear and you can use lower rings.

To answer your question, yes it has enough travel to go up that high.

Bout to take the step into the .50 cal and I have found, a pretty good buy, but I need some first hand opinions.

first, I assume it is, but is ....$1500 a good price for an AR50?

second, the most difficult, can a lefty shoot it ok, and/or is there a cheek rest adapter thing to make it more comfortable for a lefty?  The bolt action actually works fine for me, but the cheek rest is obviously in an akward position.

Thanks.

The price is very right for a gun in good condition. New ones are running around $2500-$2800.

I put my cheek piece from the AR50 into a CNC milling machine and milled a 1/4" off of the edge of it.  The bolt now will open smoothly with the check piece in it's lowest position.

How is the recoil on it compared to the barrett semi. I fired the semi and there was nothing to it due to the comp and the recoil system. The armalite looks like it just straight locks in with nothing to absorb it. Is it worse than a 3inch magnum?
Link Posted: 3/9/2006 6:04:08 AM EDT
[#23]
The AR-50 has even less felt recoil then a M82, you can shoot the AR-50 all day long and never feel any worse for wear. Another plus is if you have plugged sinus's it will clear it up for you and if you don't like the person sitting next to you, it will blow all their stuff off the bench!

I like mine alot.  I use low rings and have no problem.  I have a husky case which is a custom job they run about 350 bucks but are well worth it.  have rollers and are custom cut for your set up and needs.  You just send in a cut out of what you want and they cut for you.  A little spendy but I don't have to break down my rifle to move it (minus the bipod that is).  Find a boresnake right away for it and keep the barrel clean.

I just received my one piece Armalite 30mm scope mount and my BagMaster heavy weapons case and I was told the Armalite mount would be too low and the cheek piece would interfere with the bolt, mounted in all up last night with my new Super Sniper 20X and with the cheek rest all the way down there was no problem and I really like the one piece mount. the case is incredible, nicely padded throughout and extra heavy padding along the zippers edge, great case well worth the money.

can you use that case for airport travel?  Ive been looking for a much lighter one.  mine is great for protection of the rifle and glass but its such a heavy rifle anyway it just adds alot.

This is the case I have been using for my AR-50. Fits perfectly, got wheels, no disassembly required.

I already have a hard case...a very good one at that.  I was just wondering for the guys who go out and pay 150+ bucks on a soft case then need to buy a hard case for air travel.

just gotta get the mono pod now Ive been delaying on that for some reason.  you like yours?

I like the monopod, but also enjoy firing from the sholder. soft case is all I need, don't travel with my guns.

I've purchased a used (but unfired) ar-50 and it came with an adapter for a harris or simular bipod.  I was under the understanding that Armalite offered a bipod for the gun.  I was unable to find it on their website.  Does anyone have an idea where I might be able to look for both the bipod and the monopod.  Are there dealers on the EE that are fair to deal with in ordering either of these two items.
Thanks for your assistance from a 50 cal nubie.

Contact Darin, a.k.a. Prince50 and tell him that Shawn sent you. He makes the bipod adaptor, bipod and monopod for the AR-50 for Armalite. He also makes a thumbscrew set for the bolt release, checkrest and the buttpad, I highly recommend the bolt release one.

Here's his email [email protected]

Darin's bipod and monopod are on Armalite's web page.  Look in the new product section under items for the AR-50.

it's the Armalite one piece 30mm mount. I was told this mount was too low and would interfere with the cheek piece, there is no problem with this mount on my AR50, with the cheek piece all the way down I can still function the bolt without a problem.

hey sorry on the late reply didn't notice the post when you made it.

its pretty general just http://huskycases.com/ the problem is that they have some frightening ladies on it that were quite sure are goregous.....

You send in a cardboard cut out of what you want and they cut it down.  I can get you better pics if you like next weekend.

Yeah but you've seen his wife!

Plus she can shoot. She was also pissed that he sold his AR-50 for a Barrett M82!

He's a friend, what are friends for, right?
