I've got one of the STG-58s than DSA built and it's very nice. I'd like to get another FAL and am curious about the CAI rifles.

CAI rifles are hit or miss. Some have gotten good rifles from them but others had had nothing but problems. I bought one years ago form them but it was built on an Imbel receiver. Had zero problems with it and was a fool to sell it. If the price is right and you don't mind doing some possible throuble shoooting and tinkering it might be worth it.

What I'd really like to build is a shorter- barreled FAL with a folding stock and plastic HGs, I'm kind of looking for a starting point.

Maddog, not a bad deal at all. Don't have the money now, but I may be contacting you if it's availalbe later.

I bought 2 CAI FALs from J&G gun sales about 5 years ago. I sold off one to fund a commercial sewing machine. I still have the sewing machine and the other FAL. It's kind of like my pocket artillery.

It's now my truck gun. I take it in a soft sided guitar bag when I venture out.

I love mine and can even bump fire it. I am planning on making it into a Para FAL when I get some cash. Hopefully before the next ban, or the next ATF ruling that folding stocks are now non-importable.....

Chris_1522:

I was actually just trying to be funny when I posted that link. One of the downsides of the internet is that subtle non worded communication is lacking. I guess that I should have added a smiley .

That business about forged v cast receivers is all nonsense. Here is a real world example of it. The brake rotors on your car/truck are cast iron or cast steel. Do you worry about them coming apart when you drive 70 mph down the freeway? Those rotors take way more stress than a firearms receiver will ever see. Ruger single action pistols are highly regarded for their toughness. Guess what. They are cast steel. Don't listen to all of that BS.

Century has sold thousands of F A L rifles built on cast receivers. They are holding together just fine.
