I know this may be a safety issue but I am wondering if it is OK to tumble live rounds? I like my ammo looking nice when I store it away. I want to get the lube off my .223 rounds from resizing but hate picking media out of primer pockets. Hoping it may be ok to tumble the loaded rounds when I am all done?

I tumble .223 after resizing - I don't want lube inside potentially contaminating the powder or primer and causing misfires. I just use a universal decap die on my progressive to push out any media in the flash hole.

I do tumble loaded 9mm though - not a safety issue.

You will get 2 answers, yes and no.

Some say manufacturers do it all the time.
Some manufacturers say don't.

A cool thread here disproved, IMHO, the loaded tumbling myth,
in which it said no problem.

On a side note, I did notice my BH 52gr HP had media stuck in the HP itself.
So.....?

Not the most knowledgeable guy but no issues ever in my experience.  It sure makes your reloads look nearly factory new, and hmm, for some reason I'll bet the commercial guys polish everything post-loading to ensure they have "pretty ammo" sitting on a shelf.

Some of the serious precision shooters worry about powder breakage or something, but for almost all shooters I can't imagine any issues.

I tumbled some 22 LR one of the cases went off and set my house on fire.

Just kidding.

No harm in tumbling live rounds, done it several times, and others here have too.  Someone even did a test once comparing velocity, with no discernible change.

From a reliable source at a gun shop, during the 2008 elections, I was told that if you tumble live rounds, Obama will impregnate your daughter.

So...I mean it's your world.

I do it and haven't had any problems.  There was a thread here where somebody tumbled live rounds for some crazy amount of time, 48 hours or something, then pulled the powder out and looked at it under a microscope.  When compared to powder fresh out of the can, there was no visibly difference.

Amen and that should end this debate forever.
