Anyone tried the new SEI G-3 Vortex yet? I picked up one for the AK at the SHOT show and the difference is literally night and day.

Go to Smith's website: http://www.smithenterprise.com/products06.html  Or just call them at 480 964-1818 Fax 480 921-9987.  Ask for P/N 6024V.  I'm not sure how many he has left of these limited run items.  They were sorta testing the market for the HK fans.  The new FAL and AK Vortexes were flying out of their at the end of the show when I got mine.

I've had one on my M1A with a hooded GLFS for a while now and it's an excellent flashsupressor giving only a small puff circle of flash straight forward compared to three flash spread of the usgi version and similar flash of the HK birdcage design on my PTR. The fact that it threads on to the existing threads and with the way the prongs are angled, keep tighting itself down elimating the castle nut setup of a usgi M14 flash supressor is a definite plus in my book. On the HK there is the retaining pin that will not be there anymore taking yet one more part out of the loop that can always go astray. I just moved and all of my funds have been going towards resettling right now, but in a few months when I've decided to move forward with my weapons systems again, a Vortex is definitely going on my PTR91.

The HK flash suppressor works surprisingly well, even on a short barrelled HK51.

Uhhhh, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a 51?
Of having a ball of fire, the size of Nebraska, at the muzzle?

Hell yeah!  That's why I don't use a flash suppressor on one

I use a vortex on my SR9TC clone.   No problems here

Whew, just for my peace of mind I went to Smith's website to see if their AK units "twist" the other direction, since AK's usually have LH threads.  Happily they are indeed smart people at Smith's and their AK unit does "twist" the other way so it too will self-tighten during firing.

Smith Enterprises didn't become one of the leaders in the M14 world, civilian and military for no reason. They make some of the best parts for the M14 today and I have no doubt about the quality of any of their products.

Amen, bro.  I'm finally jumping onto the HK/clone bandwagon and picking up a PTR-91 for a steal in a few weeks (long story) and I'll definitely throw one of those Vortexii on while they're still available for this model.  My Vortex-equipped SAM-5S simply amazes me.  Will do same for my AK-74 when they come out.  It really stunned some folks on a (night) indoor range the other night.
