Went to Sigs website. They don't list anything in the way of 556 parts. Has anyone bought anything from them in the way of spare parts. Pricelist? etc.....

Well, sort of. When I bought my 556 it was one that had the defective folding stock, it needed to have a deeper groove cut in a pin that is held in place by a c-clip. Sig sent me every part on the folding mechanisim free of charge, I changed it all out, but was left with a bunch of "spare parts" for the folder. I also ordered a set of the "fishgill" black handgaurds, if I remember right they were about $40 Hope this helps.

I'd like to have a spare complete bolt or at minimum firing pin and extractor...

I have a bunch of spare parts, but purchased them all as complete Swiss parts kits.  One option is to contact Colorado Gun Sales.  They seem to have spares, albeit at very high prices.

Something to consider - a good friend of mine who is the Caribbean LE distributor/rep for Swiss Arms saw my collection of parts for the 55x series when he was visiting the US.  He laughed and told me I was wasting my time/money; that he has never had any part fail on any of the 55x guns that have come through his hands.  He doesn't exactly baby his firearms and his clients are mainly Caribbean drug interdiction teams.

That being said, I like the idea of having a spare bolt, carrier, cocking handle, piston with return spring, gas valve, and select few small parts such as various pins and springs.

How much money was spent developing and producing the Sig 556?

How much money was spent developing the Space Shuttle? Ever seen one turn into a bottle rocket? Yea, me too....TWICE.....anything made by man can fail....and probably WILL.

I agree with your logic...just ask the passensgers of the RMS Titanic.

I am in full agreement.  That is why I have multiple spares for the 55x series and the AR15/M16 series.  They are my two favorite and most frequently used rifle platforms and I want spares to keep them running while I own them and once they are passed down to my future kids, grandkids, etc..

Has anyone found a reliable parts source for the 556?  I'm looking for all the basic parts myself, always good to be able to actually keep your rifle running if something snaps, eh?

I bought a second rifle since gathering the parts was about as expensive.

I would love to have some spare parts. I will try and ask a rep at SHOT show if there will be any parts put on the website that we can buy in the near future. I am sure the answer will be the standard "maybe" bullshit that most, not all, reps usually are instructed to say.

SIG rep today stated that the major components would not be available for sale, and they had no particular intention of ever doing so.  I pointed out the same arguments here ("I want it to last 50 years plus" "What about after nuclear war?" etc) and the rep's response was basically "I've put 25k rounds through mine, and it hasn't broken yet, so I wouldn't worry".  Charming.

However, he did state that SIG would be/is currently selling a 556 refurb/repair kit, which sounds like it basically consists of replacement springs.  Better than nothing, I suppose.

That's pretty f'ed up on Sig parts not to provide spare parts for their rifles. I wished I knew that Sig wouldn't have spares available when I bought mine I would have just got an XCR...

I really like my SIG rifle, but SIG really dropped the ball on this. First they did not have a decent set of iron sights for the rifle, they did respond by coming out with the new diopter set of sights. Hopefully they will respond to the lack of spare parts. I really don't get it why they would not be more willing to have spare parts available. Is there any way we could get together and start a petition to get them to have spare parts available?

I couldn't agree more. I hate when companies pull the "it will last, thats why we don't sell parts" or they're just dick's and don't offer parts just because they don't want to.

so the guys buying a spare rifle are on the right track?  afterall nothing less than a spare Titanic would have made a difference in that example.

Not necessarily but the stupidity of Sig in not offering parts means that the only way to acquire them is to pay nearly as much for the few essentials as a new rifle. So....a second rifle makes the most sense.

I'm not too worried about not having spare parts for my 556.

ARs are the only rifle system I know of that having spare parts is actually recommended and talked about.  I don't have a single spare part for my AKs (other than furniture take-offs), and I'm not worried about those.  Since I've got a dozen fighting rifles, I'm not worried about the Sig breaking...

If the Sig goes down, I'll just grab one my other rifles.
