I bought this about 17 years ago, it has good weight to it and it is great for camping but I have never seen another one like it.

Looks pretty useful for a camping/hiking blade. Try Googling the name.

I've had a couple Explorer brand knives years ago.

They are cheap 400 series stainless.
"Surgical steel" is a fancy way of not saying what kind of steel it is.

All that said, they are durable and easy to sharpen for a stainless steel. It should do most of what a blade like that is designed for.
