I read up and now know the GSG-5 is picky on ammo for reliability which is ok. I saw a pic of a gummed up barrel from some cheap Remington crap and I decided to get the recommended CC1 mag ammo- i got the 36grHP and I bought some 30gr Aguilia (spelling is off I know) from midwayusa.com it had over 20reviews all were good and it got 5 stars- better than ordering without a clue- which i did but i got some good feedback- anyway what are some proven ammo brands and grain for the GSG-5- i will post a report in 2 weeks when i get everything in and have time to shoot

For general plinking I use Federal value pack from Walmart. If I'm shooting for groups I use CCI mini mags.

Both work flawlessly in my GSG.

My only complaint with using Federal Bulk is that the lead bullets make the barrel very difficult to clean. I shot 250 rounds through my GSG the other day and spent an hour trying to get a patch to come out looking clean.
The CCI copper plated on the other hand are very clean.

The 550rd value packs are 36gr HP copper plated. You must be using the Federal champion which is a 40gr lead round nose.

another vote for the walmart value packs. 0 problems with the 2 boxes i have shot so far. CCI Minimags work well too, and so do the CCI subsonics.

I have been using the Winchester bulk pack (333 rounds) it has a plated bullet and seems to have a bit more power than the Federal bulk pack, I would put Federal next in line as really good. Remington golden bullet bulk pack has been crap in the GSG but works fine in the AR in 22.

Still picking through a stash of Blazer and a brick of Wildcats.  I usually stick with the Federal 510 found at Wal-Mart.  This ammo performs will with my Charger too.  The GSG does like the 550 pack though.

CCI MiniMag HP.   Clean, accurate, consistent.

Federal 550 bulk from W.M. works good, but my trigger feels "gritty" after shooting them.

Crap! You are right! I didn't even realize I was using the crappy stuff.

The problem is that wal, mart (at least in the Salt Lake area) is cleaned out, as are most of my usual suppliers. Thank heavens for Cabela's in Lehi, they seem to be able to keep supplied. Jesus, I hate this brave new world, where the zombies have wingnut ears and live off of consuming my freedoms and money

I've run tons of stuff through the gsg –– there is a post about ammo in the sticky's but, like others, I have found that the Fedral Bulk Pack 550 runs great.

It is tied with the Winchester 333.  Both are available at Walmart, but are becoming very hard to find (especially in the northeast).

I recommend 36 grain (for proper cycling) and copper plated (for cleanliness).
